(Technically, the version that's most commonly found is a Monitor 7a, with a Polk designed midrange driver, but few called them that. It is accurate, open and easy to listen to. Selling for one-third the price of the Spenders, the Monitor 7 was born.

In school, they had fallen in love with a speaker by a British company, Spendor, and decided to copy it, using off the shelf drivers and a vinyl covered box. Back in the early 1970s, Matt Polk, Sandy Gross and George Klopfer graduated from John Hopkins University together.
Monitor 7 - The first great speaker Polk Audio made. The 10B is a big box that took up a lot of room and needed to be off the floor on speaker stands, but if you had a pair of Monitor 10B speakers and a case of beer, you had a loud party in progress. Monitor 10B - Rock 'n' roll! They had tons of bass, were hard to blow up, and efficient as all get-out. It was a party van, including a hidden stash place for certain combustibles. It was a pretty advanced setup for that era. I had a van in 1977 that had Mini-Monitors plus two bass drivers driven off of an amp, hooked up to a cassette deck.
The last ones were the first decent speakers I ever put in a vehicle. I love the whole Monitor series, but then, I started selling Polk Audio in 1976 when their entire line was the Monitor 7 & 10B, plus the Mini-Monitor.
